About this workshop:
In this engaging and interactive session, Jessica will lead participants through a model lesson that immerses teachers in a Concept-Based approach. Through a carefully crafted blend of factual and conceptual questions, participants will explore various case studies, gaining firsthand experience in integrating conceptual understanding into their teaching practice.
Following the model lesson, Jessica will facilitate a comprehensive debrief session, allowing participants to reflect on the lesson's structure and implementation. Through collaborative discussion, educators will explore how the lesson's flexible structure can be adapted and applied across various classroom settings, ensuring its effectiveness in diverse teaching contexts.
The remainder of the workshop will be dedicated to unpacking the Concept-Based Inquiry model, developed by Rachel French and Carla Marschall. Participants will explore the function of each phase of the model and experience practical strategies to use in their classroom, including strategies to engage learners, define concepts, explore case studies, look for patterns and connections, articulate conceptual understanding, and transfer learning.
