We have some exciting news to share with you. Back by popular demand, IES is offering an upskilling workshop on conceptual Inquiry, a current topic that is trending in education circles right now. Our commitment is and has always been YOU. Since we recognize the importance of professional development and its place in developing the pedagogical knowledge and skills of our school leaders and teachers, we have planned several workshops [both online and face to face] to make this possible.

The topic of our first workshop this year is: Concepts in Action:
Facilitating Meaningful Learning Through Conceptual Inquiry

About this workshop

This interactive two-day workshop will examine the role of conceptual inquiry and how we can embed concepts and inquiry into our units of learning to ensure students are active participants, where they have choice and voice in their learning, where they are able to develop depth of understanding, and transfer and apply their learning in authentic ways.

Audience:

This workshop is for elementary to middle school teachers (K-8) and administrators interested in understanding more about conceptual learning.


OUTCOMES:

Participants will:


  • Examine why teaching conceptually is necessary to promote
    relevant and engaging learning for students.
  • Understand how we can use an inquiry process to focus on
    concepts in our teaching and learning. 
  • Be provided with examples and guided through a process of how to develop conceptually driven units.
  • Examine what ‘inquiry is’ andbe introduced to an inquiry process where the concepts become the ‘language of the learning.
  • Explore how we can give students choice and ownership of their 
    learning within the context of a unit of learning.
  • Understand the role of the learner as an active participant in their learning.

Workshop Leader Biography: 
Tania Lattanzio is an author and renowned international educator. Previously a teacher, coordinator, and manager with the International Baccalaureate, she is now Director of Innovative Global Education. Tania has worked as an educational consultant globally, in both local and international educational settings. 

Tania has worked with schools and teachers from early childhood through to high school.Tania has worked with schools and teachers from early childhood through to high school.

This role involves developing and conducting professional learning for teachers and leadership, modelling pedagogy in classrooms, and working intensively with teaching teams, through mentoring and coaching, to improve planning, teaching and assessment. A key focus of Tania's work is developing and designing conceptual curriculum for schools, this work involves conceptualising curriculum across subject areas and year levels. This also involves equipping teachers with ideas and strategies to ensure that learning has a conceptual focus.

Refund Policy:

  • Refunds for the workshop may only be issued if cancelled by the Workshop leader (for reasons beyond her control) and we failed to find a suitable time for most of participants; or registered participant informs IES he/she is able to show up before 24/02/2023
  • If there is insufficient registration before 01/03/2023 the IES will inform participants of the cancellation and refund the actual paid registration fee only.


Certificate:


E-certificate signed by Tania Lattanzio will be issued 5 days after the workshop.
